HCG TEST (ADULT MEN)

Purpose

To investigate interstitial (Leydig) cell function in male adults.

Product

Chorionic gonadotropin Endo®, 5000 IU vials.

Dose

1 vial containing 5000 IU by IM injection.

Protocol

• Sample (dry or EDTA tube) at 8 a.m. on d0.
• IM injection of 5000 IU hCG.
• Samples (dry or EDTA tubes) at time intervals of 4 hours, 24 hrs (d1),  48 hrs (d2) and 72 hrs (d3) after injection.

Samples

After centrifugation, draw off the plasma or serum and store at +4°C.

Assays

Usually testosterone and oestradiol, sometimes also delta-4 androstenedione and 17-OH progesterone.
