Data Entry Operator, night team

Could you sum up the duties of a data entry operator in a few words?

Our job is to enter data from Test Request Forms that arrive at Biomnis and provide as much accurate information as possible to the technical departments to ensure that the analyses are carried out under the best possible conditions.
It is important never to forget that behind each sample is a patient waiting for their results.

Is working at night not a problem?

It has its advantages and disadvantages: we are free during the day, which means that we have more free time during the day than people who work normal office hours. On the other hand, we have a different rhythm of life from those around us, which can sometimes produce feelings of isolation. Still, adapting to working at night can be easily done, it’s just a question of personal organisation.

Has anything been done to reduce the night team’s feeling of being ‘cut off from the world’?

Information is the key. Handover is essential, to ensure continuity between the various teams that cover data entry over the 24 hours that make up the day. We also receive regular visits from our head of department and occasionally from the biologists or the heads of other departments, to discuss how their teams function… during the day!
