SECRETIN TEST

Purpose

To detect gastrin hypersecretion in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Produit

• Sekretolin Diagnosticum® (vials)
• Normal saline (250 ml).

Dose

3 CU/kg body weight.

Subject preparation

• Fasting for 12 hours.
• Discontinue secretion inhibitors for 48 hours.

Protocol

• Sample (dry tube) at time interval 0.
• Slow (one hour) infusion of the correct dose of secretin in 250 ml normal saline.
• Samples (dry tubes) taken 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the beginning of infusion, at the end of infusion (T+60) and 15 minutes later (T+75).

Samples

After centrifugation, draw off the serum and freeze as soon as possible at –20°C.

Assay

Gastrin.

Side effects

Rare: nausea, mild headache.
