UREA BREATH TEST: HELICOBACTER PYLORI

Purpose

To check for successful eradication.

Product

• Heli-Kit® (urea 13C: 75 mg and citric acid: 1.4 g), Laboratoires Mayoly-Spindler.
• Helicobacter test® (urea 13C: 75mg), Laboratoire INFAI

Precautions

• Discontinue all antibiotics at least four weeks before testing.
• Discontinue secretion inhibitors for two weeks (IPP, anti-H2, etc.).
• No antacids or complexes in the last 24 hours.

Protocol

• Subject having fasted overnight and at rest; no eating, drinking or smoking during the challenge.
• Clearly mark four sample tubes (2 tubes T0 and 2 tubes T30) (only use 10 ml Exetenair® tubes).

Heli-Kit

• Dissolve the contents of the kit's citric acid sachet in 200 ml water.
• Give the subject 100 ml of this solution to drink and keep the rest.

Helicobacter test®

• Give to the subject 200ml of orange juice (100% pure juice)

• Dissolve the contents of the kit's citric acid sachet in 200 ml water.
• Give the subject 100 ml of this solution to drink and keep the rest.
• Open the two T0 tubes by unscrewing the cap.
• Get the patient to blow gently into one of the T0 tubes through the first straw. Continue blowing until condensation appears on the walls of the tube. Remove the straw while still blowing and quickly close the tube.
• Repeat with the second T0 tube.

Heli-Kit

• Dissolve the contents of the kit's urea sachet in the rest of the citric acid solution (100 ml).

Helicobacter test®

• Dissolve the contents of the kit’s urea sachet in 30ml of water

• Get the subject to swallow the urea solution and start the timer.
• Wait for 30 minutes.
• Open the two T30 tubes by unscrewing the cap.
• Get the patient to blow gently into one of the T30 tubes through the second straw. Continue blowing until condensation appears on the walls of the tube.
• Remove the straw while still blowing and quickly close the tube.
• Repeat with the second T30 tube.
• Check that the closed tubes are hermetically sealed.
• Put all the tubes in the special box, fill in the order form and include it.
• Laboratory correspondents should hand the entire transport kit over to the regular collection agent for transfer at room temperature.
