O’SULLIVAN'S TEST

Purpose

To screen for or diagnose gestational diabetes.

Subject preparation

Fasting overnight.

Product

Glucose (sachet or oral solution: 50 g or 100 g).

Dose

  • Screening: 50 g dissolved in 100 ml water administered orally.
  • Diagnosis: 100 g dissolved in 250 ml water administered orally.

Protocol

Sample at T0 (1 fluoride or iodo-acetate tube).

1.Screening:

  • Oral administration of the correct dose of glucose.
  • Sample (1 fluoride or iodo-acetate tube) at time interval: T+60 min.
2. Diagnosis:
  • Oral administration of the correct dose of glucose.
  • Samples (fluoride or iodo-acetate tubes) at time intervals: T+60, T+120 and T+180 min.

Samples

Immediately cold-centrifuge the blood samples taken at each time interval, draw off the plasma and store at +4°C.

Assays

Glycaemia.
